The Panzerkampfwagen II (also PzKpfw II or Panzer II) was a light tank of the Wehrmacht.
The German armaments industry was unable to provide the planned standard Panzer III tanks in significant numbers.
Therefore, in the first two years of World War II, the Panzer II, with almost 1,100 operational vehicles, became the backbone of the German armoured forces, even though it was only intended as a training tank.
