Designed by Skoda, the 100/17 Modello 14 was a medium howitzer that formed a major part of Italy's artillery strength. Overall, Italian artillery was a hodge-podge of an earlier era, though crews were well-trained and made the best of the guns they served. The bravery of the Italian artillerymen on the Eastern Front was legendary; they would often fire at the onrushing enemy at point-blank range, attempting to stem the Soviet tide.
