In the Depths of the Breeding Pits, this second Frostgrave expansion takes players and their warbands into the vast network of catacombs, tunnels, sewers, and dungeons that stretches beneath the streets of Felstad. In these sinister realms, the Beastcrafters – ancient mages dedicated to creating strange hybrids and deadly monsters – experimented. Many of their creatures still roam the forgotten passages today. Felstad's underworld is a dark, deadly place, full of magical and conventional traps and abominable creatures that rarely venture to the surface.

This expansion offers players many new rules to play Frostgrave with additional variants and new tactical challenges. The first section contains guidelines for the specific challenges of setting games in the underworld, including rules for traps and secret passages. Additionally, there are new rules for random encounters, showing how easily creatures can stalk their prey in the darkness of the underground.

The book includes new options for wizards and their warbands. There are spells for sorcerers who want to explore the magic of the Beastcrafters to change the form of animals and themselves. A new spell category is introduced: Reaction Spells, a new tactical element in the interplay of magical duels. Wizards can now also hire two new types of warriors specialized in combat and exploration in the underworld.

The main rulebook Frostgrave in the Ruins of the Frozen City is required to play.
