DIE GRUPPE
WEAPONS AND EQUIPMENT OF THE GERMAN INFANTRY SQUAD (1939 - 1945)

Die Gruppe is a photographic book about the standard and regular equipment
of the German soldiers who formed a unit (Die Gruppe) during World War II.
The book explains the role assigned to each of the men in the squad
(which theoretically could not have more than nine members) with numerous
historical photographs. Each and every weapon and piece of equipment
these soldiers carried is described in detail, with photographs
of items and equipment from private collections and museums. The publication
is a faithful reflection of the lives of these soldiers through a collection of
personal items, high-quality photographs, and curiosities.
The Group, known as the "Squad" in most armies, was the smallest
combat unit of the German infantry. It was made up of a variable
number of men, commanded by a corporal or a non-commissioned officer, called the
Gruppenführer (squad leader). This unit was structured around a
light machine gun, which could be an MG 34 or an MG 42.
