The Kommandeurswagen Type 87 was a light, four-wheel-drive staff car developed from the ubiquitous VW Beetle and its Schwimmwagen derivative. Featuring enlarged running boards, all-terrain tyres, and a large sliding fabric roof, it provided the Wehrmacht with a cheap, reliable vehicle that could tackle more difficult terrain than its civilian counterparts while still offering protection from the elements to its occupants.
