Only the mighty Yamato displaced more than the massive yet very fast Iowa-class battleships. The last battleship commissioned by the US, the USS Missouri, known as "Mighty Mo", served as the venue for the Japanese surrender in World War II. Iowa-class ships were used far beyond World War II, upgraded with modern electronics, weapon systems and cruise missiles - the USS Missouri was finally decommissioned in 1992 after a distinguished career.
