US Army Heavy Weapons Platoon (plastic)

The US Army was known for tackling its opponents with overwhelming firepower, and its heavy infantry weapons were a crucial part of this doctrine. Medium machine guns and mortars delivered vital direct and indirect fire to keep the enemy at bay, while the ‘Ma Deuce’, the US Army’s legendary .50-calibre heavy machine gun, could punch through cover and even take out light vehicles.

The box contains everything you need to assemble a heavy weapons platoon - up to four mortars and machine guns or three heavy weapon teams plus a platoon leader and bodyguard. If you opt for the latter, you will also be able to use your infantry sprue kit and weapons, as the crew are sculpted in US Army uniforms and are fully interchangeable with the plastic infantry. Note that HMGs have four crewmen, so the exact number of heavy weapons you can field depends on how you assemble them. Whichever you decide, you’ll have plenty of spare parts for conversions of troops and vehicles.

Contains:

• Two heavy weapons sprues, each containing one M1919 .30 cal Medium Machine Gun, two .50 cal Heavy Machine Guns (one standard heavy barrel M2 and one AN/M2 barrel) with two tripod mounts, one 81mm M1 Medium Mortar with bipod, and a choice of ammunition. That's two medium machine guns and four heavy machine guns with a total of four tripod mounts for the machine guns and two medium mortars with bipods.
• Three crew sprues containing a total of twelve infantry figures that can be assembled as crew or command teams with a choice of heads, arms and equipment, including a hand holding a mortar bomb and a pair of hands operating the heavy machine guns' triggers.
• Four 60mm and three 25mm bases, allowing you to assemble up to four heavy weapon teams or three heavy weapon teams plus a platoon leader and bodyguard.
