StuG III Ausf. D Assault Gun

Based on the battle-proven Panzer III chassis, the Ausf D was armed with the 75mm StuK 37 L/24 gun, whose high-explosive rounds made short work of enemy positions and early-war tanks.

Although overshadowed by the headline-grabbing 'big cats' like the Panther and Tiger, the Sturmgeschütz (StuG) assault guns were arguably the greatest success story amongst German armoured vehicles. Seeing service on all fronts the Third Reich fought on, they collectively destroyed more tanks than their feline cousins, with claims of knocking out over 20,000 tanks by 1944!

The StuG's low silhouette proved to be extremely advantageous, making it difficult to hit and easy to conceal with camouflage.

StuG crews actually belonged to the German Artillery rather than the Panzer divisions, and as such generally wore field grey uniforms.
