Textured Rolling Pin - Norsemen
Textured Rolling Pin - Norsemen
Textured rolling pins that can be used to imprint a permanent, repeating pattern on clay and other putties. Made from transparent, non-toxic PMMA plastic with amazing non-piercing properties. The textured rolling pins are available in several different textures, depending on your specific needs.
Length: 14.50 cm (5.5 inches)
Diameter: 2.5 cm (1 inch)
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:
1. - Mix the putty/clay/modeling clay thoroughly until it is ready according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
2. - Spread out the putty/clay/modeling clay. For best results, smooth the material. We recommend using a flat, untextured rolling pin for this purpose.
3. - Depending on the type of material, we recommend moistening the rolling pin to prevent sticking.
4. - Move the rolling pin with consistent pressure to ensure a continuous texture.
5. - Cut off the excess material at the sides with a sharp knife. We recommend letting the material dry beforehand.
MATERIALS:
There are many different putties and types of clay on the market, and all can be textured with the right technique.
Modeling with these rolling pins and polymer clay (Fimo or Sculpey type) is usually quite easy, as polymer clay allows for easy error correction due to the heat required for curing.
If the goal is to model textured bases, we recommend using MDF wood bases. It is possible to texture the material directly on the bases and then bake the model, including the MDF wood bases, in the oven at 150ºC for 15 minutes. The MDF wood bases will not burn and will have a slight smell of toast.
In the case of epoxy putties, there are different techniques to achieve similar results. The advantage of these materials is that they do not need to be fired, but can be textured directly.
When using Green Stuff, which is particularly sticky, it is advisable to moisten the surface of the rolling pin or the material with a little water before imprinting the texture.
Also, talcum powder, or even directly applied modeling petroleum jelly (LINK), can reduce the stickiness of Green Stuff.
Other epoxy putties, e.g., Milliput modeling clays, can also be used. However, these should not be moistened, as it unnecessarily complicates the work. If Milliput appears too sticky, the material should be kneaded until the stickiness subsides.
CLEANING AND CARE:
After using the rolling pin, it should be cleaned with a scratching brush and plenty of water to remove any residue of the material used.
SAFETY:
Children should always be supervised by an adult when using the product.
