Soviet Naval Brigade Veteran Squad

With the Soviet Navy largely bottled up in ports, many sailors were deployed as infantry at the front, often still in their black naval uniform with the distinctive cap and striped 'telnyashka' undershirt.

Numerous specialised naval infantry units were formed: forty brigades and five regiments. They earned a reputation for tenacity and daring, both in defensive fighting and in amphibious operations on the Baltic and Black Sea coasts. Thanks to their prior military experience and strong esprit de corps, they were among the best troops available to Soviet commanders. This is also true in the Bolt Action tabletop game, where Naval Brigade units are part of the Hammer & Sickle army special rules and bring the always useful 'Tough Fighters' rule. These veterans are well-equipped with a variety of submachine guns, perfect for raining down a devastating hail of bullets at close range.

German troops called the naval infantry the "Black Death" due to their black or dark blue uniforms and their formidable reputation - a well-deserved nickname!
