The Sd.Kfz 184 Elefant heavy tank destroyer brings incredible range to the German forces, capable of eliminating enemy vehicles from a range of almost 5km – long before return fire was possible for most targets.

Although the Elefant modifications improved the vehicles, some problems could never be fully resolved. In 1944, Elefants served on the Italian front but proved quite ineffective, as their weight prevented them from using most Italian roads and bridges. As at Kursk, most Elefant losses were not a direct result of combat but occurred when mechanical failures and a lack of spare parts forced their crews to destroy and abandon them. The very last surviving vehicles were used in Zossen during the Battle of Berlin.
