Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth Later Infantry with Muskets Firing

The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth military was divided into native and foreign contingents, with the majority of soldiers recruited from within the Commonwealth itself. The infantry's reputation was far behind that of the cavalry. In the late 16th century, infantry units were formed from peasants recruited from royal lands, who received land in exchange for their service. These troops were of low to medium combat effectiveness and were used to bolster the Hadyuk infantry on the battlefield.
