Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth Later Infantry Command

The military of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was divided into native and foreign contingents, with the bulk of soldiers recruited from within the Commonwealth itself. The reputation of the infantry lagged far behind that of the cavalry. In the late 16th century, infantry troops were formed from peasants recruited from royal lands, who, in return for their service, received land. These troops were of low to medium combat effectiveness and were used to reinforce Hadyuk infantry on the battlefield.
