Pike & Shotte Epic Battles - English Civil Wars Cavalry Battalia

The wars of the 17th century saw vast numbers of cavalry units take to the field. Parliament’s cavalry initially relied more on the pistol than the cold steel charge favoured by the dashing Royalists, but by the war’s end bloody charges were the norm.

Cuirassiers were rare in the English Civil Wars and confined to a few squadrons, mostly formed from Lifeguards. Individual troopers wore what armour they had available, regardless of its age, and could be integrated into the Harquebusier regiments. Dragoons were found on all sides and could dismount to hold tactical positions such as bridges, but also fire from the saddle when required.

All armies of the period deployed as many cannons as they could afford, from fearsome large Sakers to small field guns like the Falconet, which blasted deadly hails of shot at close quarters.
