Prussia was a highly militarised state during the latter stages of the Napoleonic Wars, with its very survival resting on the strength of its army. The Prussian artillery, whilst not as famed as the infantry or cavalry, nor as numerous as the Landwehr, was a vital component of the army, providing vital fire support to the troops. 'Horse' artillery, consisting of highly mobile light guns, was intended to gallop around the battlefield to where it was most needed and often proved decisive in repelling enemy attacks or supporting assaults.
