British Light Dragoons 1808-1815

The term "dragoon" originally meant mounted infantry. In addition to infantry training, they were also trained to fight on horseback. However, during the 18th century, mounted infantry evolved into elite units in European armies. Consequently, dragoons only entered the battlefield on horseback.

Nineteen light dragoon regiments served the British Crown at the height of the Napoleonic Wars. They were light cavalry, not dissimilar to hussars, and were occasionally referred to as such themselves. One of the most famous regiments was the "13th Light Dragoons," which is still in service with the British Army today, though now under the name "13th/18th Royal Hussars (Queen Mary's Own)!"

The box contains enough parts to recreate the uniforms of the Peninsular and Waterloo campaigns.
