The backbone of the British and Commonwealth army was the regular soldier. They may have lacked practical experience at the start of the war, but they were well-trained professionals and were likely led by men who had fought for several years during the Second World War. The Commonwealth Brigade soldier fighting in Korea proved to be a capable force and only added to the successes of the distinguished history of the British and Commonwealth forces.

One unit particularly known from the Korean War is the 1st Battalion, The Gloucestershire Regiment, "The Glorious Glosters", whose motto is "By Our Deeds We Are Known". Due to their actions, they became known for a dramatic engagement in the Battle of Imjin from 22 to 25 April 1951.
