The Italian paratroopers were tough men, often poorly supplied and supported, but they fought and died bravely where they stood, refusing to give up.

Folgore (Lightning) and Nembo (Nimbus) were the two airborne divisions that fought bravely for Mussolini until the armistice between Italy and the Allies, and later for the Italian Social Republic (RSI). Even then, large parts of Nembo sided with the Germans and became the basis of the German 4th Parachute Division, which was one of the last Italian units to surrender in 1945.
