Although the majority of infantry forces fielded by the Royal Hungarian Army in 1944-45 were untested in combat, after three years of fighting on the Eastern Front, there were some experienced units. Infantry divisions of the Hungarian First Army had recently fought for the defense of Galicia in early 1944 and would use their experience, such as the 25th Division in the Battle of Torda and the 10th Division in Budapest.

A Hungarian rifle platoon was not as well-trained in infantry tactics as their German comrades, nor did they possess their firepower. Although the Magyars had an advantage in manpower with 3 sections of 13 men, and the issue of modern panzerfausts gave them a chance against Soviet tanks, which their countrymen on the Don in 1942 did not.
