In 1860, hostilities between the northern and southern states of the USA heated up, leading to the formation of the new Confederacy in the South. The war began on April 12, 1861, with the Confederate bombardment of Fort Sumter. Over the next four years, Americans killed Americans in a war the likes of which the world had never seen. The battles during the American Civil War proved once again that war can become hell for anyone.
