Mortars were among the most prolific support weapons of World War II. Their relatively light weight and ability to fire indirectly across a wide variety of ranges made them incredibly useful in practically any combat situation. The German 81mm medium mortar was used by all arms of the Wehrmacht and was particularly favoured by veterans for its destructive effect against enemy troops in cover.

An indispensable part of Heavy Weapons Platoons in Bolt Action, medium mortars provide commanders with the ability to put down indirect fire over the heads of their troops, ignoring cover when hitting their targets. When zeroed in on the enemy by spotters, medium mortars can control large areas of the battlefield if well-deployed.
