Bolt Action: Gebirgsjager squad

Besides paratroopers, mountain troops (Gebirgsjäger) were also considered elite. Gebirgsjäger originated from the Alpine Corps of World War I, where they were used to defend mountain passes against their Italian counterparts, the Alpini.
Their symbol was the edelweiss, a flower they traditionally wore on their caps and collars, which became the universal emblem of all mountain troops in 1907. The flower grows only at higher altitudes and means "noble purity."
Specially trained for deployment in mountainous and difficult terrain and under extreme climatic conditions, Gebirgsjäger divisions were used throughout the war in almost every theater of war in Poland, Norway, Africa, Crete, and the Balkans, as well as Russia.

As Allied troops advanced further into Germany, Gebirgsjäger often fought alongside regular infantry. Especially in the last months of the war, when the quality of new conscripts was poor, Gebirgsjäger were often called upon to defend strategically critical areas.
