Paratroopers

At the outbreak of World War II, the first paratroopers deployed in larger formations were the airborne units of the Wehrmacht. At the forefront of the German forces, they carried out daring attacks on important strategic targets and positions. Among other things, the paratrooper attack on Fort Eben Emael in
Belgium paved the way for the Germans through Western Europe.
They made a name for themselves worldwide through jumps from small gliders and the "rescue" of the Italian leader Mussolini, as well as raids behind American lines in the Ardennes. Their finest hour undoubtedly came during the bitter fighting for the
occupied monastery of Monte Cassino. Here they earned the
nickname "Green Devils". The German paratroopers were the elite of the Wehrmacht.
