British & Inter-Allied Commandos Weapons Teams

Infantry weapon teams are an important component of any Bolt Action army, providing great tactical flexibility to your force. Sniper teams, flamethrower teams, and light machine gun teams are among the most widespread weapon types, posing numerous challenges for the opponent to overcome.

As specialist raiders, the Commandos went into battle with light weapon equipment. However, they made good use of Vickers K machine guns – formerly aircraft-mounted machine guns – with their high rate of suppressive fire. These 2-man teams consist of a Vickers K gunner and his No. 2 loaded with extra ammunition.

While marksmanship was an essential skill for all Commandos, those with a particular aptitude for accuracy and fieldcraft were often deployed as snipers. In the early days of the organization, snipers were deployed more ad hoc; later in the war, they were explicitly listed along with their scopes in the Commandos' organization and equipment tables. Snipers were used not only for reconnaissance and attacking enemy forces but also in pairs on landing craft to engage enemy defenders in advance of amphibious assaults and attacks.

For the Normandy landings in June 1944, Commando troops received flamethrowers in backpack form to clear fortified positions on the beaches. The portable Mk 2 flamethrower contained enough fuel for about 10 one-second bursts and was quickly disposed of after the initial phase of the assault.
