British Heavy Weapons Platoon

Distinguished in defence by steadfastness and in attack by method, the British Army relied on its heavy weapons to support the infantry and keep the enemy suppressed.

The 3-inch medium mortar was the backbone of the British Army’s support platoons, providing organic close fire support to rifle companies within every infantry battalion. Its heavier cousin, the 4.2-inch heavy mortar, first saw action at the Battle of El Alamein, throwing a 20lb bomb more than 4,000 yards. The Vickers medium machine gun was a veteran of the Great War. Whilst its rate of fire was less than other weapons, being water-cooled it could maintain accurate fire for sustained periods and was incredibly reliable.

The box provides everything you need to build a Heavy Weapons Platoon – up to two medium machine guns and two medium or two heavy mortars, or three heavy weapon teams along with a platoon leader and bodyguard. If you opt for the latter, you can also use your infantry equipment and weapons as the crew are sculpted in British Army uniform and are fully interchangeable with the plastic infantry. Note that the heavy mortars have a four-man crew so the exact number of weapons teams you can assemble will vary depending on which weapons you choose. Enough 60mm bases are provided to assemble a total of up to four weapons teams.

Contains:

• Two heavy weapon frames, each with a Vickers medium machine gun with tripod, ammo and water-cooling canister, including options for covered and uncovered barrel, and a medium and heavy mortar, both with bipod and base plate and ammunition.
• Three crew sprues allowing for a total of twelve crewmen sculpted in mid-to-late war British Army uniforms, also suitable for many Commonwealth forces. Included are a variety of heads, arms and equipment, as well as ammo boxes and spent casings to decorate your bases.
• Four 60mm and three 25mm bases
• British and Canadian decals
• Four Order dice
