At the outbreak of war, the QF 2-pdr (QF standing for "Quick Firing") was the standard anti-tank gun of the British Army.
At the time it was an adequate weapon, somewhat more effective in terms of armour penetration than the German 37mm PaK 36.
However, it was larger and heavier and had an unusual carriage in which the wheels had to be removed before it could fire. Against early tanks, light vehicles and poorly armoured Japanese tanks, it performed well, was popular and achieved success in France, North Africa and the Far East.
