The Soviets were defeated despite their enormous numerical superiority. When the Soviet Union – by now allied with the Allies – attacked again in 1941, the Finns had few options left but to ally with Germany in a conflict known as the Continuation War. The Finns were masterful marksmen and skilled in small unit tactics, striking hard and then disappearing into the dense forests.
